2024 Global Open Call

In late 2023, CJRF’s Advisory Board approved an 18-month strategy to deploy up to US$4M in funding by experimenting with different participatory grantmaking methods. You can read more about this series of pilots here.

In April 2024, we launched the first in this series of pilots – a global open call for proposals. This pilot tested an applicant collective participatory grantmaking process, in which CJRF invited the applicants to collectively review proposals and decide upon grants. The four grant recipients made it through two voting rounds and were awarded by the other applicants. We started theprocess with 513 expressions of interest, which turned into 274 groups submitting applications. 175 applicants from 49 countries then joined the voting process.

You can read some initial reflections and lessons on this process in our December 2024 blog.

While many organizations were deserving of these funds, the applicants voted on and selected Centrum Inisiatif Rakyat Mandiri (CIRMA), Development of Educational Action Network (DEAN), Mainyoito Pastoralists Integrated Development Organization (MPIDO), and SamprityAid Foundation to rise to the top.

Each of these four groups received a multi-year, flexible $200,000 USD grant under the proposal theme of “Building connections, networks, and collaborative spaces for climate justice and resilience.” Read more about the open call recipients below.
