Amplifying NELD Stories Through Community Journalism
Internews is an international non-profit organization that has been empowering communities through journalism since 1982. Its Earth Journalism Network (EJN), founded in 2004, works to enhance the capacity of journalists, particularly from low- and middle-income countries, to cover environmental issues more effectively. EJN focuses on amplifying the voices of marginalized communities, including women, youth, and people with disabilities, by providing them with platforms to share their lived experiences and solutions to climate impacts. EJN’s work highlights the often-overlooked issue of Non-Economic Loss and Damage (NELD), including psychological trauma, loss of culture, and forced migration, which are rarely covered in mainstream media.

Why Internews’ Earth Journalism Network?
EJN plans to use the grant over to build the capacity of citizen and community-based journalists in India and Bangladesh to cover NELD impacts and solutions. They will hold in-person journalism training workshops for journalists, community members, and experts, offering field trips and mobile journalism techniques. EJN will also provide story grants and mentorship to at least 40 journalists, helping them produce solutions-focused stories on NELD. Additionally, EJN will produce multilingual tipsheets to guide journalists on covering NELD, host online events to launch these resources, and offer distribution support to place stories in both local and national outlets, ultimately raising awareness and driving action on NELD issues.
