Fortifying Feminist-led Youth Movements
Young women, girls, and trans youth bring unique and essential perspectives to the climate crisis. Our grants between 2019 and 2022, totaling $510,000, supported FRIDA: The Young Feminist Fund to grow their climate and environmental justice impact in the Global South. With this funding, FRIDA supported activities such as: capacity building for teen and single parents for Climate Smart Innovative Agriculture programs; construction of an ecological center for agroecological trainings; organizing against palm oil plantations in Central Kalimantan; and more.
As part of our 2024-25 participatory grantmaking pilot strategy in 2024, CJRF awarded FRIDA an additional $250,000 to provide renewal grants to organizations, groups, and coalitions within their climate and environmental justice portfolio. FRIDA’s grantmaking strategy is created in conversation with young feminist organizers and mirrors the organizing needs and practices of young feminist movements. This ensures that funding priorities reflect the needs of those directly impacted by climate change.
