Elevating Climate Justice Narratives

Climate justice is complex and intersectional. Stories told by those who are most impacted by the crisis are critical for both understanding the scope and depth of the crisis, and designing the most impactful solutions. To support the production of stories from the perspectives of those on the front lines, CJRF provided a $275,000 grant to Doc Society in 2020 to support Indigenous-led production of innovative and strategic climate justice documentaries and narratives.

As part of our participatory grantmaking strategy, CJRF awarded Doc Society $250,000 in 2024 to contribute to their Climate Story Unit, which aims to expand and strengthen stories from the front lines of the climate crisis. With this 2024 grant, Doc Society will continue to support the development of stories and of strategic “impact campaigns” that allow films and other media to engage key audiences, generate critical conversations, and drive policy change.
