Our Grants

CJRF funds community-led climate justice work that is rooted in lived experience, responsive to local contexts, and accountable to women, youth, and Indigenous Peoples. We provide flexible, multi-year grants to address climate impacts and create alternative ways of living that shift the unjust social, political, and economic systems that have generated the climate crisis.

We fund work in the Arctic, the Bay of Bengal, and East Africa; regions where severe climate impacts intersect with strong local leadership and the potential to influence broader systems. Within each geography, we take an ecosystems approach, supporting diverse and complementary actors and resourcing multiple efforts working toward shared goals.

Since 2016, CJRF has supported communities disproportionately affected by climate change to implement, share, advocate for, and scale their own climate justice solutions.

Some examples of grants we have funded include:

5

Under the leadership of the Inuit Circumpolar Council, Arctic Indigenous peoples are taking their rightful place at the table of the International Maritime Organization to advocate for policies that minimize pollution and sea ice disruption caused by the growth of shipping in the Arctic.

The Governance for Climate Resilience Project, co-led by the Center for Natural Resource Studies, ICCCAD, and the Center for Climate Justice – Bangladesh, is empowering Bangladeshi activists to ensure fresh water in publicly owned canals stays available to everyone as sea levels rise.
