Training a New Generation of Eco-Friendly Farmers
Youth Volunteers Chad ACT4SDG (Chad) is a youth-led organization with a vision to build a resilient, green, and equitable Chad, where every young person is a driver of change for a sustainable and climate-just future. Through community-led action and innovation, they aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage an inclusive ecological transition in the Lake Chad Basin.
Using this $15,000 grant, Youth Volunteers Chad ACT4SDG will train 100 young people between the ages of 15–30 in N’Djamena, Nigeria, on climate-smart agricultural practices, including small-scale irrigation, composting, agroforestry, and eco-innovation like low-cost vertical gardens. They will also support two promising youth-led green micro-projects with both mentorship and seed capital. Participation will prioritize young people from low-income communities in N’Djamena who typically lack access to technical training and economic opportunities.
By the end of the program, at least 70% of participants will demonstrate a measurable improvement in their understanding and use of sustainable farming techniques. Chad currently faces low agricultural productivity due to climate change, so this initiative will help equip a new generation of young people with the skills to build resilient, eco-friendly farming systems in their communities.
