Climate Rights Funder Collaborative , Phase 1

Countering the Backlash

Threats to climate justice are similar to those experienced in reproductive justice: both are highly politicized, often denied, and subject to prevalent misinformation. The intersecting aspects of these issues call for synergies and collective action to stimulate commitments and bold responses.

Countering the Backlash, led by Success Capital, aims to unite grassroots movement building for climate and reproductive rights issues across different contexts. The project wants to change and strengthen climate and reproductive rights policy through advocacy campaigns that counter climate and reproductive rights denialism, misinformation, and backlash. Through policy briefs and a podcast series, Countering the Backlash is raising awareness on these issues globally.

Why Success Capital?

Following the Peoples’ Summit on Climate Rights and Human Survival held in October 2019, the Climate Justice Resilience Fund, Oak Foundation, Open Society Foundations, True Costs Initiative, Wallace Global Fund, and one anonymous donor formed the Climate Rights Funder Collaborative hosted at CJRF. The Collaborative brought together the human rights and environment funder communities to co-create strategies, incubate and test ideas, align funding, and pool resources. With the aim of strengthening national and trans-national climate movements with a human rights approach, this sub-fund provided modest seed grants to innovative organizations working at the intersection of climate change and human rights.
