Phase 2

Since 2018, CJRF has supported the Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association (MMWCA) to amplify the voices and build the leadership of women and youth in the management of land and natural resources for conservancies in Kenya.

Our most recent grant of $200,000 aims to further strengthen women and youth representation, participation, and power in the governance of conservancies and management of the region’s natural resources. Going beyond participation, MMWCA now wants to enhance the economic power and autonomy of women and youth by growing nature-based jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities. Additionally, MMWCA plans to strengthen their own organizational culture of diversity and inclusion, and in particular, grow the proportion of women in senior management to at least one third.

Why Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association (MMWCA)?

MMWCA has a strong model of power shifting. Their work goes beyond training women and youth to give them a seat at a table, but also ensures that the people they work with achieve circumstances where they are actively utilizing their knowledge and experience to participate in conservancy governance discussions and practices.
